Video: Virgin's iPad Mag 'Project' Gets Animated, Coming Tuesday

Word reaches us that Virgin’s virgin iPad-only magazine is Christened “Project” and is due to hit the tablet’s iTunes Store at this link with a launch by Richard Branson in New York on Tuesday; price unknown.

A new unit dubbed Virgin Digital Publishing has tapped Anthony Noguera, the former FHM UK editor-in-chief and editorial director of publisher Emap/Bauer’s mens division who left in 2009, to produce the mag.

Note the “magazine”‘s “cover” - the publisher tells us:: “We can’t think of any other mags whose front cover is a video.” In fact, there was at least one such mag in our rundown of nu-wave tablet magazines earlier this year, in which we said that introducing such non-standard features is likely to increase magazine production costs considerably. But then, Project is a totally new launch and will seemingly work this way from the get-go.

News of the mag emerged this summer. Though some onlookers have written about Project in the same breath as News Corp.‘s upcoming The Daily tablet-only mag, the differences are clear - the latter’s a newsy, daily edition; the other’s a mostly-monthly, feature-led title focusing on “design, entertainment, technology, entrepreneurs”. In fact, Project seems to have more in common with GQ or Wired, the tech mag whose own iPad edition turned out less whizz-bang than Adobe’s initial demos, than with a News Corp (NSDQ:NWS - News). newspaper.

Says Virgin Digital Publishing: “Project is what we like to think of as a ‘living magazine’ – evolving and updating throughout the month and taking advantage of the iPad’s capabilities to deliver a really innovative reader experience. Unlike a regular magazine you won’t just read Project once and then forget about it. The idea is that Project will be something that readers treat as a daily destination, offering breaking news, reader polls and blogs. That, and it has all the interactivity, responsiveness and immersion you would expect from the iPad experience.” An accompanying blog is live at projectmag.com, prepopulated with several posts about fashion, internet, movies, games etc.

Kinect sells faster than iPad!

But do you know how fast of a seller it is? Apparently, it's done so well that not even the Apple iPad can keep up.

According to Microsoft, they already have moved some 2.5 million units of Kinect, a mere 25 days after it came out on the market. To compare just how fast that was, they gave the example of the iPad saying that Apple's latest device didn't even get to that number until at least two months.

If we're going to do the math, 2.5 million units in 25 days would mean that there have been an average of some 100,000 Kinects being sold every day. If the iPad sold two million in 60 days, and then three million within 80 days, that would mean that the iPad sells 50,000 a day. That's just half of what the Kinect is pulling in.

That's some really impressive numbers, and the comparison really does help things be put in a clearer perspective. There's no question about it, Kinect will go down in this year's gaming history as one of the more memorable items to launch. Now what's left for us to find out is for how long will they be able to sustain it.

And, Axl Roses' Relaxation Tapes, in which Axl's gravelly warble serenades you over the soothing background sounds of rain, crickets, waves crashing on the beach and more. The app promises future features showing Jimmy's texts and contacts.

Jimmy says the app will be a key way that viewers can interact with the late-night talk show. Fans will love it. Others will hate it. In the meantime, I must go peel a banana.

Dead iPad - Apple iPad Forum

Hey everyone,

I have quite the problem and since people link to this site because you guys are so helpful, I decided to give it a try.

Right, the problem is, that I have an iPad, 3.2.2, Jailbroken with Limera1n and with Cydia. When I opened Cydia yesterday, I had to upgrade some important components so I upgraded them, but since then, my iPad restarted and doesn't do anything anymore. I know I could restore the whole thing, but here's the issue why I haven't done that yet... there are some important documents on there which I DO NOT want to lose. The last time I backed everything up was about two weeks ago, and since then I have made quite a few important docs, so I really hope there's a solution or at least a way to access and back up those files...

I hope you guys can help me out with this problem...

EDIT: Oh yeah, I tried soft and hard reset (The holding power and home button etc) and when I plug it in to PC is says it is in DFU mode, but the iPad screen doesn't say anything...

TuneIn for iPad: Listen to Radio Stations from Around the World

One of my favorite podcasts comes from a radio station that broadcasts in San Francisco, and while I like the podcast, sometimes I want to listen live. I also remember listening to some great radio stations when I was traveling abroad that I simply can't get at home. Thankfully, with TuneIn for the iPad, and I can enjoy that live broadcast from San Francisco as well as some of the radio stations I used to love overseas right here at home. TuneIn allows you to listen to over 40,000 radio stations from around the globe, many of which are traditional AM or FM broadcasts that are also streamed over the Internet. TuneIn is available for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, and requires iOS 3.0 or later in order to run. The folks behind TuneIn just updated the iPad app to include a custom interface that makes use of the iPad's larger display and higher-resolution, and gives you faster access to radio station lists and search tools than the previous version. The app also makes use of multitasking in iOS 4.0, and if you have installed on your device you can use the Apple headphone and dock controls to manage playback and set the app to play in the background while you do other things.

Rupert Murdoch Is Planning An iPad-only newspaper

Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation will soon launch a new newspaper exclusively for the Apple iPad.

The tablet-only publication will be called the Daily and is expected to be made available to the public in early 2011.

Unlike many other newspapers, the Daily will not have separate online and paper editions. The news publication will be available only through its dedicated iPad app and will require a subscription.

According to media reports, users will pay $0.99 per week for access to the newspaper.

More than 100 journalists have already been hired to work for the Daily, some of whom previously worked for other publications, including the New Yorker and the Los Angeles Times. News Corporation has reportedly committed to investing $30 million in the project.

News Corporation chairman and media mogul Rupert Murdoch has expressed enthusiasm about the new publication. In an interview with his Fox News television station, Murdoch referred to the Daily as his "number one most exciting project."

News Corporation owns a variety of media outlets worldwide, including Fox News, Sky News, the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal.
