People really really really want an iPad. They want one so badly that they open themselves up to scams. One woman from Arlington was deceived recently when she was fueling her car at a gas station. A stranger approached her and offered to sell her an iPad that he claimed was originally worth $800. The price was $200, so the woman took the offer and drove home.

She was surprised to find a tablet-sized mirror that had been duct-taped with an Apple logo on it. Now she has some good advice for all of us. “Don’t buy nothing on the streets from nobody.” If only she had heeded that warning.

The police said that last year similar incidents were reported. “Crimes of this kind always increase leading up to Christmas,” a police spokesperson said. Always look before you buy people.

Quake 3 Arena Debuts On iPad: Jailbreaking Required | Geeky Gadgets

That’s right. Jailbreak your iPad first then proceed to whup derriere aross the nightmare universe of Quake. If you’re feeling gracious about this bit of news, some dude named Alexander Pick deserves your thanks.

Since the 1024 x 768 resolution game has been tailored for the iPad, the controls are on-screen though Mr. Pick is reportedly ironing the kinks for Bluetooth keyboard support.

Other essential details you should know about is it’s got iTunes integration for easy files sharing and the graphics are pretty awesome. If you want them awesome-er via high resolution texture files, go check the source link for guidance. Play can be offline or online and adding levels is as easy as drag n’ drop.

Allowing for a moment’s aside, Quake 3 Arena on the iPad should pull in a whole new generation of gamers who missed the golden years of first person shooters. Before Halo and mega-franchises like Battlefield, Callof Duty, and Medal of Honor swept the earth, ridiculous sci-fi horror was a staple of the subgenre (i.e. Doom, Half Life). Man, thinking of our Quake days back then brings a tear to the eye.

Unless you’re not super-excited and/or nostalgic for a classic ultra-violent shooter, Quake 3 Arena is hot and ready for relentless combat.
