ModulR Unveils iPad 2 Case System - PadGadget

We’ve featured modulR’s flexible accessory system before at PadGadget. Last year, they released a very useful case system for the first generation iPad that consisted of an ergonomic protective case and unique, interchangeable accessory attachments that fit your active and mobile lifestyle.

Today, the company has unveiled their new accessory system for the iPad 2.

The new iPad 2 case system offers more than just protection for the iPad 2. It comes with a case that clicks-to-fit multiple stands, mounts and straps, which allows you to take the iPad anywhere you go. The system has been designed for you to use at home, in the car, in the office and everywhere you think of using your brand new iPad.

A hardshell case that protects your iPad and fit the modulR accessories. The modulR iPad 2 Case is not only Smart Cover compatible, but also works with modulR’s sturdy iPad 2 Cover Stand. The company will include the Hand Strap as part of the case system.

The iPad 2 Case + Hand Strap combo will cost $39.99. It will be available on different colors – Tech White, Classic Black, Crystal Clear. The case system will be available this summer.

A cover stand that uses the iPad 2’s magnetic design to allow the stand to auto-wake and securely connect to the iPad. The Cover Stand builds on the modulR Case design by attaching to the case’s nodes. The stand will set you back $29.99 and will be available this summer.

The shoulder strap combines a secure shoulder strap with a hand strap and stylus holder (free stylus included). The strap is compatible with modulR’s iPad 1 and  iPad 2 cases. The shoulder strap costs $19.99 and will be available in early summer.

The headrest strap is easy to setup on your car headrest. It is compatible with modulR’s iPad 1 and iPad 2 cases. The headrest strap costs $19.99 and will be available in early summer.

This wall mount solution securely attaches your iPad in both portrait and landscape orientation giving the iPad a home in any room. The wall mount is compatible with modulR’s iPad 1 and iPad 2 cases. It will be available in different colors – Tech White, Classic Black, Crystal Clear.

The wall mount will set you back $19.99 and will be available in early summer.

The fridge mount brings your iPad to your kitchen. It basically allows you to mount your iPad with magnets in certain surfaces. It is compatible with modulR’s iPad 1 and iPad 2 case. The fridge mount will cost $19.99 and will be available in early summer.

modulR and Cafe Press have teamed up to bring custom logo inserts for the modulR cases. If you want to insert your company logo in your iPad(s), the custom insert allows you to stand apart. It is compatible with modulR’s iPad 2 case only, and will set you back $9.99.

<b>iPad</b> vs. 4G: Download Speed Tests | PadGadget

Yesterday, Digital Daily ran an article about low iPad download speeds when connected to a 4G hotspot. Since PadGadget recently acquired a 4G access point, we were immediately intrigued by the findings, and decided to run our own tests to see if we could reproduce the same issue.

First of all, our test conditions slightly differ from Digital Daily’s, as we used MacBook Pros and iPads to perform speed comparisons, while Digital Daily used Windows laptops and iPads – nevertheless, the move from PCs to Macs should not significantly impact the results. Also, the tests were performed in Dallas, while Digital Daily’s tests were likely ran in New York City. Finally, Digital Daily used a Sprint Overdrive access point, while we used a W801 access point from Time Warner Cable, but these access points are in fact the exact same device, and they both ride on the same network (Clearwire).

Findings

For some reason, the average download speed of our iPad connected to the 4G access point is pretty much the same as the speed obtained by Digital Daily, about 2.5Mbps, which seems to imply that the iPad simply cannot go beyond 2.5Mbps when connected to an Overdrive/W801 4G access point.

Meanwhile, our results on the MacBook Pro connected to the same access point were better, but the difference between the laptop and the iPad wasn’t as dramatic as what Digital Daily noticed: the average speed of our Mac on the same access point was about 3Mbps, while Digital Daily managed to reach an average of 5Mbps on their Windows laptops.

Like Digital Daily, we decided to run the same tests over a WiFi access point connected to a cable modem, to see if the issue was WiFi related, or isolated to 4G access points. Surprisingly, the issue simply disappeared.

Long story short, the issue seems to be access point specific, and most 4G access points appear to be affected. The download speed decrease isn’t all that bad, and isn’t really noticeable while browsing, but still, the iPad doesn’t seem to be able to use all the resources offered by the access point.

According to John Paczkowski, the writer of the article published in Digital Daily, both Apple and Clearwire have been notified, but so far neither side commented on the issue.
